The Charlotte Hornets are an American professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Eastern Conference. The Hornets play their games at Spectrum Center. The team is mainly owned by NBA icon Michael Jordan. In 1988, the original Charlotte Hornets were founded as an NBA expansion team. In 2002, the team relocated to New Orleans. The NBA established the Charlotte Bobcats in 2004 as an expansion team. In 2014, the New Orleans franchise changed its name to the Pelicans, leading to the Charlotte franchise to readopt the Hornets moniker, and acquiring the history and records of the original Hornets.

Charlotte is led by the reigning rookie of the year, LaMelo Ball. Ball is one of the league’s up and coming stars, attracting media attention dating back to his sophomore year in high school, when he scored 92 points in a game. Ball was drafted third overall in the 2020 draft. Despite only playing in 51 games, Ball won the rookie of the year award, averaging 15.7 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds a game. Ball led a surprising Hornets team to the play-in tournament, where they fell to the Indiana Pacers. The Hornets possess another capable guard in Terry Rozier, who averaged 20.4 points last season. Young wings PJ Washington and Miles Bridges support the lethal point guard duo. In addition, veterans Gordon Hayward and Kelly Oubre will provide depth scoring. Head coach James Borrego looks to improve off of a strong 2020-21 season that provided a lot of hope for the future.
