Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are an American professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Eastern Conference. The Pistons play their home games at Little Caesars Arena. The team was founded in 1937 as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons as a semi professional team. They turned pro in 1941, joining the National Basketball League. In 1948, the team left the NBL and joined the Basketball Association of America, changing their name to the Pistons. The two leagues merged to become the NBA the next year, leading to the Pistons joining the NBA. The team moved to Detroit in 1957.

From 1986 through 1991, the Pistons were known as the “Bad Boys”. They earned the nickname through their physical, defensive-oriented style of play. The Pistons won their first championship in 1989, and they repeated as champions in 1990. The “Bad Boys” were led by point guard Isiah Thomas. Thomas is a hall of famer and was a twelve time all star. The bad boys also featured hall of famers Joe Dumars and Dennis Rodman. The Pistons won another championship in 2004, led by all-stars Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace, and Ben Wallace. The Pistons had the first pick in this year’s draft, and they selected Cade Cunningham from. The Oklahoma State product is expected to usher in a new era of basketball and Detroit, hopefully becoming the face of the franchise in the future.
