Florida Gators

The Florida Gators men’s basketball team represents the University of Florida in NCAA Division I men’s basketball. The Gators basketball team was established in 1915 and has competed in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) since 1932. Florida plays their home games at Exactech Arena at the Stephen O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators have made 22 NCAA Tournament and five final four appearances. They have also won four SEC tournament championships. In 2006 and 2007, Florida won back to back national championships. They were led by the big man duo of Al Horford and Joakim Noah, who both went on to become NBA all-stars. The team also featured Corey Brewer, who the Minnesota Timberwolves selected with the seventh pick in the 2007 NBA draft. Both national championship teams were coached by Billy Donovan, who is largely credited with leading the Gators basketball program to prominence in his nineteen years with the team. In 2015, Donovan left Florida to become the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was replaced at Florida by Mike White, who is still the Gators head coach. White was previously the head coach of Louisiana Tech, winning the Conference USA regular season championship in each of his final three years with the team. With the Gators, White has accumulated a 123-75 record in six seasons. In 2020-21, Florida finished with a 15-10 record and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as a seven seed. They defeated Virginia Tech before getting upset by Oral Roberts in the second round. The Gators are in good shape to return to the tournament in 2022 with the return of 2021 all-SEC forward Colin Castleton. Last season Castleton averaged 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Castleton is supported by four star signing Kowacie Reeves. The Macon, GA native was ranked seventy-first in ESPN’s Top 100 basketball recruits of 2021. The return of Colin Castleton and the addition of Kowacie Reeves puts the Florida Gators in a position to return to the March Madness in 2022.
