Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Western Conference. The Rockets play their home games at the Toyota Center. The team was established in 1967 as the San Diego Rockets, relocating to Houston in 1971. The Rockets have won two NBA championships, coming back to back in 1994 and 1995. The two championship teams were led by hall of fame center Hakeem Olajuwon.

Throughout the 2010’s the Rockets were a perennial championship contender after their trade for James Harden. The Rockets reached the playoffs in every season with Harden, including two appearances in the Western Conference Finals. In 2017-18, Harden was paired with future hall of famer Chris Paul, leading to the Rockets finishing with the NBA’s best record. Harden was also the league’s MVP that year. Last season the Rockets traded Harden, and began a rebuild that has produced some intriguing young players. The Rockets had four picks in the first round of this year’s draft. With the second pick, the Rockets selected Jalen Green. Green was a five star recruit out of high school, and is expected to provide scoring immediately. The Rockets picked Alperen Sengun with the sixteenth pick. The 6 foot 10 post machine has already drawn comparisons to Nikola Jokic and Domantas Sabonis. The Rockets picked Usman Garuba with the 23rd pick. The 6 foot 8 wing led Spain to the 2019 Fiba U18 European Championship. Houston also had the 24th pick, which they used on Arizona State guard Josh Christopher. Head coach Stephen Silas looks to develop these young pieces into a championship contender.
