New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are an American professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Eastern Conference. The Knicks play their home games at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. The Knicks were founded in 1946 as a member of the BAA, which merged with the NBL in 1949 to become the NBA. The Knicks have won two championships, coming in 1970 and 1973. The Knicks defeated the Lakers in both series. The Knicks also played the Lakers in the 1972 NBA Finals but lost.

Last season, the Knicks unexpectedly made the playoffs for the first time since 2013. New coach Tom Thibodeau implemented a new defensive-oriented scheme that led to improved play up and down the roster. Thibodeau won the NBA’s coach of the year. Julius Randle, the team’s best player, was the biggest beneficiary of Thibodeau’s system. Randle took home the league’s most improved player award and was a member of the all-NBA second team. This offseason he was rewarded with a 4 year, $117 million contract extension. The Knicks doubled down on Randle by supporting him with an improved cast. The team re-signed Derrick Rose. They acquired him at the trade deadline, and his leadership paid incredible dividends. Lottery picks RJ Barrett and Obi Toppin look to take the next step forward. The Knicks also signed former Celtics Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker. Fournier was inked to a 4 year, $72 million contract and the team hopes he can provide reliable wing production. Walker, a four time all star, was signed on a bargain contract after getting bought out by the Oklahoma City Thunder. One of the Knicks strengths is their depth, and they have no shortage of that with Alec Burks, Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley, and Mitchell Robinson coming off the bench. The Knicks look to follow up on their strong 2020-21 season and return to the playoffs in consecutive seasons.
