The Philadelphia Eagles are a professional American Football team competing in the National Football League. The Eagles are a member of the league’s historic NFC East division, alongside the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Football Team. The Eagles play their games at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles were established in 1933 to replace the Frankford Yellow Jackets, Philadelphia’s first NFL team which suspended operations in 1931. The Eagles have made 27 playoff appearances, won fourteen division titles, seven conference championships, and four championships. Three of the championships came before the AFL-NFL merger. In 2017, the Eagles won their first Super Bowl, which snapped a 57 year championship drought. They defeated the heavily favored New England Patriots, led by Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick. The Eagles won with their backup quarterback, Nick Foles, after starter Carson Wentz tore his ACL late in the regular season. Foles was named the Super Bowl MVP after passing for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Foles also caught a touchdown during the play that is now known as the “Philly Special”. Despite winning a Super Bowl, Foles magic was unable to continue and he was shipped off to Jacksonville. Wentz was also unable to get past his injury history, so the Eagles have turned to Jalen Hurts to become the quarterback of the future.
